Introduction to Natural Farming

Natural farming is an agricultural approach that eliminates the use of synthetic chemicals, encouraging the use of on-farm inputs prepared by farmers themselves. This method promotes functional biodiversity, with the indigenous breed of cow playing a crucial role in preparing inputs like cow dung and cow urine. The primary goals of natural farming include restoring soil health, increasing biodiversity, efficient use of land and resources, promoting local livestock breeds, and improving farmers’ incomes.

More Articles

Pioneers of Natural Farming

The term was first advocated by Masanobu Fukuoka, a Japanese farmer and philosopher, in his book “The One-Straw Revolution.” In India, Subhash Palekar, known as the Father of Natural Farming in India, developed Subhash Palekar Natural Farming (SPNF) and was awarded the Padma Shri in 2016.

Practices

It incorporates the use of local variety seeds, on-farm produced seed dressing (bijamitra), microbial inoculants for soil enrichment (Jivamitra), cover crops, mulching with organic matter, mixed cropping, integration of trees, pest management, livestock integration, and water conservation.

Difference between organic and ecological farming:-

Organic farming is a farming which is based on principle of the use of organic fertilizers and pesticides prepared from the plants and animals. The difference between the organic and ecological farming is that it has crop rotation as major characteristic feature. In 2024, the total area under the organic farming certification process is 7.3 million hectare. Sikkim is the first organic state in the world.

Adoption in India

Indian farmers are increasingly adopting natural farming due to its potential to double their income, generate employment, conserve the environment, improve consumer health, and enhance crop yield. Currently, India has 6.5 lakh hectares under natural farming, with leading states like Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, and Kerala. Andhra Pradesh has implemented community-based farming through Rythu Sadhikara Samstha.

Government Initiatives

The Indian government has launched initiatives such as the National Mission of Natural Farming, aiming to cover 7.5 lakh hectares under 15,000 clusters, with financial assistance of Rs 15,000 per hectare per year for three years. Other initiatives include the Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana (PKVY) and Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA).

G20 Summit

Automated farming is discussed in the three day Agriculture Working Group Meeting in G20 Summit in Hyderabad. The government is committed to make policy and action plans for the food security and nutrition. The Working Group discussed about the climate smart agriculture approach, sustainable agriculture, food security, climate resilient technologies and farming approaches. ICAR has develop the climate suitable varieties for the ecological farming and sustainable agriculture system.

Challenges

Challenges include inadequate irrigation facilities, labor-intensive preparation of on-farm inputs, and lack of crop diversity due to no assurance of Minimum Support Price. Addressing these issues requires legislation for Minimum Support Price, promotion of millet, consumer awareness campaigns, significant government investment, hands-on training for farmers, private sector partnerships, and promotion of local agricultural products.

Conclusion

Natural farming offers hope for farmers and consumers, promising a sustainable and healthy future for agriculture. The work should be done in the education sector for the improving the course of the agriculture. Automated farming will reduce the burden of the lifestyle disease. The policy should be prepared to give utmost importance to small and marginal farmers. Although, there is a long way to go but it should be a collective responsibility. It should be the government and farmer hand in hand job but also society contribution of the society by kitchen garden promotion. The kitchen garden will in the promotion of the local variety and will reduce the supply-chain burden.

“Automated farming is a hope against hope for farmers and consumers.”

Introduction to Prehistoric art Bhimbetka Cave Painting

Have you ever imagined a world without no language, no paper, no books, and no documents? Yes, this era is called prehistory or prehistoric. The excavation tells us about the different pottery, habitat, bones, tools, drawing and art on the walls. Paintings and cave art is the most common form of art used for their expression.

The upper paleolithic age saw the proliferation of artistic expression. The walls of the caves are filled with paintings and drawings of animals. The topics of these drawings were animal symbols, geometry designs, human symbols and activities. The earliest painting was from the upper paleolithic era in India. Archibold Carlleyle was the first to discover the rock painting in India

Rock Painting in India

The rock painting in India is present in Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh,Bihar, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Uttarakhand (Kumaon hills). The rock paintings are divided into three categories: man, animal and geometry pattern (white, black and red ochre). The representation of the humans as stick-like forms. The animals were multiple legged lizards, fox, long stouted animals.

The neolithic’s made granite rocks of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh as their canvas for their painting. Most famous sites are Kupgallu, Piklihal and Tekkalkota. The subject of the neolithic painting were animals such as elephants, bulls, sambhar, sheep, goats, horses, humans, tridents and vegetal motifs. The richest paintings of the Paleolithic and Mesolithics are reported from Madhya Pradesh (Vindhya ranges) and are extended to Uttar Pradesh. In Madhya Pradesh, Bhimbetka Caves is the largest and most beautiful rock painting. These caves were discovered by V.S. Wakankar. The painting of the Bhimbetka caves is subjected to hunting, dancing, music, horse and elephant rider, animal fights, household scenes, decoration of bodies, and honey collection.

The rock painting of the Bhimbetka Cave painting has been categorized into three different groups. This categorization is based upon the style, techniques, and superimposition. The drawing and painting of these caves can be categorized according to the historic timeline. There are 07 historic timeline but period III they are four more successive periods.

Period I (Upper Palaeolithic)

Period II (Mesolithic)

Period III (Chalcolithic)

Period I (Upper Palaeolithic)

The paintings of this phase are linear representations in green and dark red. The huge animal figures, such as bison, elephants, tigers, rhinos and boars along with stick-like human figures. This phase of paintings have geometric patterns but a few of them are wash paintings. The green color painting represents the dancers and the red color represents the hunters.

Period II (Mesolithic)

This phase of painting has a large number of paintings. These paintings vary in size but the scenes are predominated by the hunting scenes with various tools. Moreover, the vogue of the hunters included simple clothes with ornaments. However, the man wore a decorated head dress and also painted with the mask. Whereas the women were painted both in the clothed and nude.

Furthermore, the children were painted jumping, running and playing. Moreover, the painting of the collection of the fruits and honey from the trees, and the preparation of food by the women. In contrast to this, these paintings also depict family life. The Bhimbetka used many colors such as white, yellow, green, black, ochre red, purple, brown. The paint was prepared by grinding various rocks and minerals. The preparation of the red color from the haematite. This red color is called Geru in India. Moreover, the green color is prepared from the green color stones called chalcedony. The brush which was used for the painting was made up of the plant fiber.

“History is all about diving into the past and depicting the future”

Does child labor still exist in India?

Children are the future of our India, Not only the nation but the future of the world lies amidst them. These are the strong pillars of our coming generation in this present day. Many children are unable to go to school or work instead of playing so they can arrange two days of bread. Children working in this way is a matter of concern for the whole world. Learn at school and at the age of playing, many children are forced to work for two days break.

Therefore, World Day Against Child Labor is celebrated every year on 12 June.

WOMEN SAFETY: MORE TALKED ABOUT THAN ENACTED

The main objective of Child Labor Prohibition Day

The main objective of Child Labor Prohibition Day is to make people under 14 years of age not labor and to educate them.

World Child Labor Prohibition Day was started in the year 2002 by the International Labor Organization. It is a day that gives children from all over the world an opportunity to lead a dignified life. And at the same time urges the need to fight against child labour happening in the world and to create an environment that suits them. Children probably do not even know what is being done to them. By the time they get to know about it, their innocence is destroyed.

World Day Against Child Labour Importance-:

Poverty is a major cause of child labor in the world, forcing most children to leave their schools and their children. These children choose minimum jobs as an option for their livelihood, to support their parents. Besides, children are forced to do child labor by some organized crime groups.
These children are also victims of various forms of torture. Many times these children are also sexually abused.

Many children in the age group of 5 to 17 are engaged in such work. All those tasks which deprive them of a normal childhood, such as adequate education, proper health care, a complete diet, sports are deprived.

International Labor Organization (ILO)

In 2002, the International Labor Organization (ILO), a United Nations body that controls the labor organization, launched the World Day Against Child Labor for this reason.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, World Child Labour Prohibition Day is being celebrated this year through a virtual campaign. The Virtual Campaign includes the Global March Against Child Labor and the International Partnership for Cooperation in Child Labor. Will be organized under the joint aegis of the International Partnership for Cooperation on Child Labour in Agriculture, IPCCLA.

Like every year, the force has set a theme of Labor Prohibition Day. As the whole world is going through a crisis of the corona epidemic this time. This epidemic has had a profound impact on the lives of all. An emergency has arisen all over the world, due to which life has been greatly affected. At the same time, it has had a profound impact on child labor. Based on this, the year’s theme is the Covid-19 Impact of Crisis on Chide Labor.

World Day Against Child Labour Theme 2024-:

The theme of World Child Labor Prohibition Day 2023 was “Social Justice for All End Child Labour !”. The focus is on the development of children working in agriculture across the world. About 152 million children are still in child labor. And it has been said that child labor exists in almost every region. But seven out of every ten children are employed in agriculture.

The International Labor Organization (ILO) celebrated 100 years in 2019 to promote social justice. And decent work for children through World Child Labor Prohibition Day.

Child Labor Prohibition Day in India-:

Child labour is widespread in India. In India, people living below the poverty line and below tend to put their children in the fields since childhood. Due to poverty, children start working in small shops to earn their livelihood. Children are also trafficked for child labour (World Day Against Child Labor 2024) in India. Many such organizations, such as sex rackets, terrorist groups, etc. seduce children with them.

To prevent this, the central and state governments take concrete steps. To prevent such incidents, the First Child Labor Prohibition and Regulation Act were passed in 1986. Under this act, labouring children below 14 years of age were made illegal.
With this, Article 23 of the Indian Constitution does not allow children to work in hazardous industries and factories. Whereas under Section 45, it has been made mandatory for all states of the country to provide free education to children below 14 years.

Many types of self-help groups are also engaged in these works for the overall development of children.

Current data related to child labor-:

Today, there are 215 million children worldwide who are under 14 years of age, and their whole time is not spent in schools and friends but in hotels, houses, industries, utensils, brooms, and tools.
This situation has become very frightening in India.

India has the largest number of child labourers in the whole world.
According to the 1991 census, the figure of child laborers was 11.3 million. The figure rose to 12.7 million in 2001.

Every child is important for the bright future of the whole world-:

Child Labor Prohibition Day primarily focuses on the development of children. And it protects the right to education and dignified life for children. Therefore, it has become important to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030 as promoted by the United Nations.

Many organizations, ILOs, etc. are trying to control child labor. But all of us should also be responsible and perform our duties to help eliminate child labour. It is rightly said that a youth originating from child labour shows his / her ability and self-worth. There is no doubt that such children will also contribute to the economy. And social advancement of the country and the world. All children are the future of the country.

Women safety and Rights: As we all know that India is the most famous country all over the world for its tradition, culture, and god. It is the only country where women are given the place of Goddess Lakshmi in society. Many laws are drafted regarding the rights and safety of women so that they can live a peaceful and equal life as men.

But is it really working? Only by making laws, and giving rights and freedom are keeping them safe? Well if I consider the statistical data of criminal records in our country then about 70% of crimes are against women and still, they are fighting for justice and their rights after getting the support of around more than half of the draft, especially for them.

WOMEN’s SAFETY: Fear and Insecurities

Let’s take an example of our day-to-day life activities if our sister, mother, friend, wife, or girl child is going out alone for a job, school, market, parties, etc they have a feelings of fear and insecurities in their mind what if someone is following me, that guy is staring at me, that man is not looking innocent, etc.

When the women travel in a local train or bus man are taking advantage of the situation and the women are victimized by eve-teasing, physical assault, etc if some women try to raise their voices than they are attacked by throwing acid on them, kidnapping, coercion, battery, assault, etc.

WOMEN SAFETY: Literate women and illiterate women

If we talk about the difference between literate women and illiterate women, maybe illiterate women are not enough aware or confident of seeing what’s happening around them or with them. They are not aware of the rights given to them by our legislature due to which they are not able to take action. But the same things are happening with the literate and independent women who are working in the corporate sectors on a designated post. But is being treated like a salve and is being victimized of eve-teasing by their superiors. Where they have to think twice before saying a word in fear what if the man in front of him gets wrong signals from her side. They are educated and are aware of these but still can’t protect themselves or fight for their rights and safety.

Check Science and Tech Category

Incidents : Women experienced

I will tell you one incident which I as women experienced a few months ago, I was on my own conveyance and was going to buy some stuff from the market alone when I was coming back from the market for a home, On my way suddenly two men around 25 to 30 years in age started following me, I got really scared so I speed up my scooty and started maintaining distance as much as i can but those guys continued following me till my house, as soon as I went inside my house they left.

This made me so upset and scared which led me to lots of scary thoughts what if they come again what if they will capture me next time I go out. That fear haunted me for almost 2 days and in those two days I didn’t go out, I felt so unsecured and dangerous.

There are many such incidents which are happening daily around us and with us but we are unable to cope up with that. I have seen people talking about this issue through reality shows, NGOs, seminars, protests, etc. But do these
steps are really helping in any way?

The crime percentage is increasing day by day after taking so many steps to make aware people of the pain females are suffering because of them because only talking is not going to work. It will not make them realize anything except a little sympathy for a short period of time. After that, they will forget these things and will continue with the same thinking and mentality towards females they have.

Why Women are still feeling unsafe?

After getting so many benefits from our federal government, from the laws of our country women are still feeling unsafe, insecure, always carrying a burden of fear with them wherever they are going. If women want to be safe, secure, and free from the crime they need to fight with their fear on their own.

Equal Rights

If I as women’s get a chance to make an amendment in our law for women’s safety I would like to divide the weightage of law equally among men and women because in our law the constitution has given more rights and benefits to women as compared to men which are also, be the reason of crimes towards the women and there should be a severe punishment for any false accusation made by any person whether men or women so that no men and women can enjoy the benefits of these laws in the wrong way.

As day by day as a female, I am growing, or even as a person what I realize is no law can define anyone’s action, of course, they can give punishment.

There is a saying that when there is a massive fire in a jungle everyone tries to get control of it by pouring lots and lots of water but then also they fail to get their immediate control over it and they also fail to control the harm or destruction caused by it. It takes time to heal everything.

So it is not the only duty of our law and government only, it is the duty of the whole world and of each and every human being living in this world to live with moral values and humanity and protect each other.
