The NSS unit of Govt. College of Engineering & Technology, Jammu today organized a national level Webinar in order to commemorate “National Science Day- 2022” under the banner of Azadi ka Amrut Mohotsav. The event held under the patronage of worthy Principal Prof. (Dr.) Sameru Sharma.
Beside welcoming the participants and the resource person, she said the National Science Day is for those who believe in science, scientists, the young generation of scientists and technologists, and those who are fascinated by scientific discoveries. India commemorates National Science Day every year on 28th Feb. to honour Indian scientist Sir C. V. Raman’s discovery of the “Raman Effect”.
She also said that national science day is celebrated each year with a view to spread the message about the significance of science and how it improves the daily lives of the common masses. Around 125 participants from different colleges and universities participated in the event. The resource person of the event was Dr. Ranjit Kumar who is working as Assistant Professor in the Department of Animal Sciences, Central University of Himachal Pradesh Dharamshala. The topic of his talk was “Present Status and Future Prospectus of Remedial Measures for removing Ground Water Contaminants”.
In his talk, he discussed that groundwater contamination is a serious problem in the world. India has also a serious threat of groundwater contamination through arsenic, cadmium, lead, etc. So, there is a need to develop cost-effective methods to remove these contaminations for human welfare. The webinar was organized by NSS volunteers Sakshi Bhat, Mandeep Singh, Mohd. Sami, Jaanvi Sharma, and Duha Faisal under the able guidance of NSS Programme Officer Dr. Raman Gupta.
He said this day is celebrated to encourage and recognize outstanding efforts in the area of science and technology and inculcating scientific temper among the masses. The event was ended with a vote of thanks given by Sunidhi Sharma. All the participants will be given e-certificates for the event.
