Jammu & Kashmir: Driver Dead, 20 UP Tourists Injured in Road Accident

Tariq Ahmed (a Udhampur resident) died instantly. Twenty tourists were also injured and were rushed to Qazigund and Banihal hospitals nearby.

Officials said that a minibus transporting tourists became a turtle in the Banihal Qazigund tunnel on Jammu Srinagar National Highway. The driver was 18 years old and 20 passengers were injured.

Officials said that the tourists from Uttar Pradesh were returning to the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine. They were heading to Srinagar for snowfall and lost control of their vehicle in the west tube.

According to them, Tariq Ahmed, a Udhampur resident, was killed on the spot. Twenty tourists were also injured and were rushed to Qazigund and Banihal hospitals.

Officials stated that 11 of the injured were discharged from the hospital after treatment, while three remain in serious condition.

They claimed that tourists had visited the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine high up on Trikuta hills, and offered prayers before they decided to travel to Kashmir to see snowfall.
